Open Land Studio is a landscape architecture practice rooted in the Northeast — the Hudson Valley, Berkshires, and Litchfield Hills.
We work with private clients, institutions, and conservation organizations on projects that range from intimate gardens to large working landscapes.
Our work is plant-forward and site-driven. We take the long view, designing for how a landscape will grow, shift, and deepen over time.
Ecological intelligence and garden tradition are equal partners; we draw freely from both.
The landscapes we're proudest of are the ones still surprising us.
Keegan Oneal
Principal + Founder
Keegan is a licensed landscape architect with over fifteen years of experience spanning design and horticulture. Raised in Southern California and now based in Upstate New York, he brings an undiminished enthusiasm for plants — their communities, their histories, and their behavior — to every project.
Before founding Open Land Studio, Keegan worked at Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, Hargreaves Jones, and Miranda Brooks Landscape Design and was named a 2016 Olmsted Scholar by the Landscape Architecture Foundation.
His work is animated by his fluency in garden history and ecological science, and the ongoing dialogue between the two.
